Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #20 The Best Songs of 2013

As the last days of the year are speeding by, and work, plans, and New Year's resolutions are fighting for my attention, I feel like there is only one thing that really matters: a list of my favourite songs from the past year. Sometimes I feel like this year happened so fast, it hardly seems to have happened at all. I'm not saying 2013 wasn't great for me: I got my Bachelor's degree, visited Rock Werchter again with one of my closest friends, made some fantastic trips to Budapest and London - and these are just the "big" events! It just feels so weird, like these things could have happened two weeks ago, or, just as easily, 5 years ago. I guess I'm just not good at tracking time.

When it comes to music, however, it's a completely different story. I know exactly when I heard a song for the first time, in what context, what I was doing, and how it made me feel. To me, all these songs give me a certain outline to remember and place the things that have happened. I'm not going to ramble on about what I felt about every song, and I didn't place them in any particular order either. I just hope you'll enjoy them, and I wish you all the best for the next year!

Lots of love,
Lisa

PS: What was your favourite song from 2013?

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom - Christmas thought

First of all: a very merry Christmas to you all! Are you all stuffed? We sure are! We keep telling ourselves every year that Christmas isn't about food, and we really shouldn't eat that much, but somehow that thought gets completely overshadowed by the copious amounts of food, only to enter our thoughts again when it's already too late.. But we both had a great day anyway, and we hope you had too. So, to get off the subject of food, let'stake a moment to ponder what Christmas is really all about? To us, that would be love, generosity, and togetherness, and who can put those things better into words than John Lennon?

What do you think Christmas is about?

Love,
Lisa & Ivanna

PS: Talking about generosity... Don't forget to check out our little surprise tomorrow!

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #19: Christmas songs

Last night, I had a little discussion on Christmas songs with a friend of mine. He told me he wanted to buy some new Christmas CDs, and I just couldn't believe someone would voluntarily listen to them - let alone spend money on them! But today I realised I don't actually dislike Christmas songs in general, I just don't like the bad ones. Hence, I made you a little playlist with my personal favourite Christmas songs, to prove to you I'm not a total Grinch. I hope you'll enjoy them, and have a wonderful few days!

Happy holidays!
xx Lisa

PS: Don't forget to keep an eye on the blog; something special is bound to happen! :)

Fridays Fabulous Photos - Merry Christmas

Christmas is almost upon us and we are already very much in the mood. We love the cozyness of Christmas lights and other decorations, which you can find all around town. We love visiting Christmas markets, meeting with family and friends and eating good food. When decorationg the Christmas tree we instantly get in the cozy mood and we catch ourselves singing along with all the Christmas carols on the radio (OK, maybe I have to speak for myself here, not sure if Lisa is having the same rituals as I do, especially with the Christmas carols).
We want to wish you a Merry Christmas and we hope you have some very lovely and special days together with your loved ones.

What are your plans for Christmas?

Love,
Ivanna

Wednesday Words of Wisdom - C.S. Lewis

We found this quote to be quite appropriate for the coming end of the year. With the end of every year, most people make New Years resolutions, and they aim to improve themselves, or their lives, in the coming year. To do this, sacrifices must sometimes be made, giving up time to practice an instrument for instance. But as C.S. Lewis reminds us here, the things we get back are far better than the things we have had to leave behind.

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #18: Slightly sentimental

As I was putting this playlist together - which is basically just a handful of songs I've been listening to the last few days - I noticed how awfully sentimental they all are! So, despite my extreme cheerfulness, I do seem to listen to a lot of depressing songs. I sure hope this is not a bad omen or anything. I do not intend to put anyone in a bad mood either, but since they're all so wonderful, I'd like to share them with you anyway. I hope you'll enjoy them!

Weekly Inspiration - Lovely Eclectic

To be very honest with you, we're not entirely sure what to make of this combination. When we took this picture, we thought the combination of colours and structures looked absolutely perfect together - and we're still convinced that they do! But we can't really tell you why this combination looks good. When discussing this issue, Lisa claimed it reminded her of pirates, obviously because of the skull, but also because of the combination of different styles. On a similar note, Ivanna called it bohemian, because it reminded her of nomads and adventurers. Either way, we think it is a lovely, eclectic combination, and a perfect example of how you can mix and match our items!

What do you think of this combination?

Apologies and announcement

Dear readers, we want to offer you our humble apologies for the lack of Fabulous Photos last Friday. The last few days have been so incrediby busy, we simply forgot to post. First of all, we spent our Friday night together, eating sushi and partying at a Fratellis concert. Which isn't much of an excuse, but we felt like we needed some actual non-work-related fun :p And secondly - and most importantly - we have been working very hard on a giveaway! We are still working on the details, but keep your eyes open - we'll keep you posted!

Lots of love,

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom - Deborah Smith

This week's Words of Wisdom are from the novel Alice At Heart by Deborah Smith. We used this quote for our new wishbone bracelets, which are part of our Wish collection. For this collection, we were inspired by the concept of wishing, and even though we do not actually believe anything you wish for will eventually come true, we do believe hoping and wishing is an import part of human nature. And, to be honest, what's the point of wishing if you don't believe in your own wish?

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #17: A Little Louder

I'm not a naturally productive person to begin with, and every winter, this seems to get a bit worse. Maybe it's the bad weather, or maybe the short days, but I just don't seem to get anything done. In a desperate attempt to shake off these winter blues I decided to listen to to some loud music in order to get myself back on my feet. And I'll tell you something: I think it is actually helping - I'm bursting with energy! Midnight may not be the ideal moment for an energy rush, but hey, it's better than nothing, right? So, for anyone who needs a bit of energy to get started this week, or to blow off some steam: some delightfully loud songs. Enjoy! And don't forget to turn the volume up ;)

Pure and Natural

Yesterday we proudly showed you the new bracelets that we introduced to our webshop, including the two versions of Ojibwa Princess. In this set we used the chestnut brown version and combined it with two other beautiful, natural coloured bracelets. This makes the set look very pure. You instantly visualise a native American girl living in the mountain forests and vast plains, and she could be wearing this jewelry! Earlier we have posted a Fridays Fabulous Photos called Spirit of Nature, and these photos perfectly fit the thought behind this set.

This set contains a brown version of Greek Goddess, a green aventurine version of Royal Princess and a chestnut brown version of Ojibwa Princess.

Even more new bracelets!

After our little Wish Collection, we have some more new items in our Etsy shop:

- Misty Mountains: a soft pastel bracelet with glass and gemstone beads. As we mentioned in our Friday's Fabulous Photos post a few weeks ago, we desperately wanted to make something inspired by mist, and this is the result! What do you think?
- Ojibwa Princess: With the story of Hanging Cloud in mind, we wanted to make something that captured the native American look. Hanging Cloud was important woman in the famous Ojibwa tribe (one of the largest groups of Native Americans in the North of Mexico). She was the daughter of chief Beautifying Bird and a full warrior - the only woman allowed to ever become one. She defended her village after her father died and therefore she is legendary among the tribes of the Northern Plains. We made the bracelets a bit more playful with colourful tassels to express femininity, whereas the thick suede emphasises her strength.

We still have loads of materials and drawings, so even more new items will be added soon!

Love,
Lisa and Ivanna

Lustrous Greens

Looking at the bracelets we've been making these last few months, it is remarkable how much more colourful they are compared to our older items. Our main idea has always been to capture nature in our colours and textures, and this often resulted in pale and nude shades. We still really like these natural tones, but - as we mentioned before - we do feel we need to add a bit more colour. And who says bright colours aren't natural? Below you can find a collage of pictures in blue and green hues, which are very popular at the moment (both in fashion and interior). We both adore this palet, and we are happily expanding our collection with gems and beads in these lustrous hues

What is your favourite colour? Do your prefer pastels or bright colours, or something entirely different?

Roald Dahl

Last week, we said that we are often inspired by Dr. Seuss's incredible quotes, and how childish that actually is. Well, we have a confession to make: we are also greatly affected by the words of Roald Dahl - especially quotes from his children's books, for which we both have a soft spot. The quote below can be found in his novel The Minpins (1991). In this book, the main character, Little Billy, is forbidden by his mother to go through the garden gate to the Forest of Sin. Obviously, he does it decides to do it anyway, and finds all kinds of wonderful things beyond the gate.
We love this book, and especially this fragment from it, because it's só true: as long as you open your eyes, and watch the world with a fresh look and an open mind, you will discover the most wonderful things - often in places where you didn't expect it!

Love,
Lisa & Ivanna

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #16: Cheesy Lovesongs

We missed last week's Musical Delight, because we were incredibly busy with our shop, but now that everything is either online or on iets way, we are back on track! Since I had a wonderful day with my boyfriend today, I'm in the mood for some really cheesy lovesongs :p What's your favourite lovesong?

New "Wish" Collection

Yesterday we proudly presented our Wish Collection! Today we are very excited to show you our first Weekly Inspiration Post with one of our new bracelets being part of a lovely set. It's great to find that our new bracelets are perfectly matchable with bracelets that we created before. From now on there are many more options for combining bright and cheerful colors with more neutral and natural tones. This really completes the jewelry and gives that 'final touch'.
This set contains a turquoise version of Delicate as Stone, a white jade version of Greek Goddess , a cherry red version of Wish Upon a Star and a pink version of If I Could Have One Wish.

Yay, new items available!

As you may or may not have noticed, some of our new items are finally availabe in our shop! Together, these new bracelets are the Wish Collection. The collection is created by our idea that it is important to have something to wish for in your life, something to hold on to. We made a colourful collection, which is great to mix and match. You can make your combinations, and even the individual bracelets, very personal by choosing your own colours.
The collection entails 3 different bracelets:
     - "Wish Upon A Star": a delicate, beaded bracelet with a little star charm at the clasp. This
bracelet is available in six different colours.
     - "If I Can Have One Wish": a lovely wax cord bracelet, with a little "wish" charm and a tassel
at  the clasp. The wax cord is available in  six different colours, and the tassels in eight,
which means there are 48 possible combinations!
     - "One Simple Wish": a simple wax cord bracelet (available in 7 colours) with a wishbone
       charm in the middle.

You can find all of these bracelets in our webshop!

What do you think of our Wish Collection? Which bracelet is your favourite?

Gypsy

We are very attracted to the gypsy style. We love the cozyness, the colors, the idea of living in nature and the expression of freedom. When we were younger, we wanted to live in a gypsy trailer and travel the world with our best friends. Also, we figured it would be great to own a pet goat to travel with us. Unfortunately this did not happen, but lets say it's never too late..

Dr. Seuss

It may seem a bit childish, but Dr. Seuss's works are always a tremendous source of inspiration for us, mainly because of his funny and inspirational poems and oneliners. Dr. Seuss was an American writer of children’s books and he was also a famous poet and illustrator. You may know him from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who! , and The Lorax . This quote is from the book Oh, The Places You'll Go! , which is a story about the journey of life and its challenges. We found this quote inspiring, because it is a clear reminder to get off your butt and start living your life! (Who knows, tomorrow you might get hit by a bus, so carpe diem!) We linked this quote to our Dead or Alive Bracelets. We think these skulls (a symbol of the Mexican Day of the Dead) symbolise the exact same thing as this quote does.

Weekly Inspiration Post

This week we're in the mood for a feminine, but sturdy combination. The stones that we used for these bracelets are all gemstones, which makes the jewelry look very natural. This set somehow reminds of Greece; the turquoise stones resemble the calm, clear sea and the irregular shaped tiger eye stones resemble the strong and defensible rocks. A perfect combination for a strong and elegant woman!
This set contains a brown version of Greek Goddess and a turquoise version of Delicate as Stone. The turquoise beaded bracelet is not yet for sale in our webshop, but will be soon!

Lisa's Trip to London

As I mentioned in my "Monday's Musical Delight" post a couple of weeks ago, I went to London with my mother in law and my cousin in law (is that a thing?) last month. We only spent a couple of days there, but it's incredible how much you can see and do in such a short time! We arrived on Monday morning, and after we dropped our luggage at the hotel, and had lunch at Maroush Bakehouse, we decided to go for a spin in the London Eye. I am terrified of heights, so I spent most of the time trying not to pass out or cry, but even I have to admit that the view was amazing!

All That Glitter

You wouldn't say, with all of our "pure" and "natural" inspiration photos and jewelry, but we actually really love glitter! But then again, who doesn't, right? Everything looks better with glitter. So, to celebrate the fact that it is finally Friday - we sprinkle you with glitter. Yay!

Have a great weekend!

Be Yourself

Sometimes you can't help but comparing yourself to others. This can be a good thing, for example when you appreciate something in a person. In this way you can learn to develop yourself, by thinking: "That is a skill that I want to achieve as well!" But comparing yourself to others, unfortunately often has a negative aspect. When you feel insecure, you might get the idea that someone else is better than you. This may lead to jeaolous feelings and you may pretend that you are another person. But always remember, you are unique! It's nice to know that there is nobody else in this world who is exactly like you. And that's already a fact that will make you feel a little special! In a good way, of course.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #15 Alt-J

Today's playlist is not actually a playlist, but an incredible concert of one of my favourite bands at the moment: Alt-J! I was going to make you guys a real playlist as usual, I really was! The thing is that, as I was putting one together today, I had the greatest difficulty turning off the concert I was listening to (for the seventh time this week). For a moment I tried to convince myself that I really had to turn it off and get to work, but then I figured: why not share this amazing piece of music with our followers? So, there. Just give it a try, and I promise you it will be amazing!

Weekly Inspiration Post

This week we want to show you a set of bracelets that contains many colors suiting the fall. We really love the gemstone beads in these bracelets. They appear pure and natural and the stones are very comfortable to wear. The charms are very symbolic, which we love! It makes the items extra special and personal. Of course you can be creative and combine different symbols - that's the fun of composing your own sets: it's all up to you!
This set contains one of our favourite bracelets The Real Peace, a red jasper version of Royal Princess, a white howlite version of Delicate as Stone, a white howlite version of Dead or Alive (silver-plated chain) and a brown version of A Little Peace.

Do you like wearing symbols in your jewelry and clothes? Let us know, we are open to new ideas!

Soft & Smooth

It's funny how moods can change; at some moments you're really in the mood for some action, you want to party, wear noticable clothing. You have a lot of energy, and because of this, your style changes. And at other moments, you just want to withdraw - take some rest, clear your mind, and relax a little with some soft and soothing music. Since I've had a very busy week, I'm really in the mood for pictures that will bring some relaxation. How about you?

Head full of songbirds

Lately, our heads have been spinning with ideas, and we are so excited that we finally found the time to make them happen! To us, our minds are a colourful mess, swarming with creative thoughts, and these thoughts are like birds that are trapped inside your head. Birds that are eager to get out and get into the world. Hence, this wonderful quote by E.E. Cummings.
Your head is a living forest full of songbirds

Would you describe your thoughts the same way?

New Materials

Lisa promised you all some pictures of our new materials, so here you go! The first picture is an overview of everything we've gathered. It may seem a bit incoherent, but since we already have most of our basic materials, these are merely additions. We have already worked out some of our ideas and not to toot our own horn, but they turned out great. Seriously, we can't wait to show everything to you! But first things first. Our new materials:

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #14: Invigorating Blues Rock

Today I spent most of the day taking pictures of all the new items we've made this weekend.* It was quite a job, since the light was pretty awful due to the bad weather, and I'm not much of a photographer to begin with.. But, everything turned out just fine, and I actually had loads of fun! I love being productive like this, and I love it even more when I have some catchy tunes playing in the background. For some reason, when I'm working with my hands, I always prefer bluesrock related music, so that's what you'll be getting today. Hope you like it! :)

xx Lisa
*I can't show you any of these yet, but I promise everything will be available in our shop soon, and I also promise we'll post some pictures of the supplies tomorrow! That counts for something, right?

Weekly Inspiration Post

Following our post from last Wednesday, we made this lovely combination, centered around one of our favourites: I Heart You. We combined bracelets with sweet and soft tones with heart charms and added a simple and delicate heart necklace. Aside, from I Heart You, this combination also holds a Royal Princess with lilac tourmaline, a white Sunny Beaches, and a vivid version of Ménage À Trois with a small, silver heart charm.  The gold necklace with the heart shaped charm made of sea shell is not yet available in our shop, but will be soon!

Pop Of Colour

Recently, we received our new jewelry supplies (photos are coming soon!), and we can't wait to get started with these colourful, new materials! It is really interesting to see how our style and choice of materials have changed over the past two years. For instance, we noticed that we are slowly adding more colour to our jewelry. Most of the things that are on the drawing board now, are based on neutrals (brown, beige, ivory) or pale hues with a pop of colour. Just because we want to stay close to nature, doesn't mean the colours have to be dull, right? You can see the proof of that on the pictures below.

Surviving The Rain

The fact that summer is over is very obvious at the moment, as rain has been pouring over the country for a few days now. Unfortunately this sad weather started exactly when my holiday started. But grief is not necessary, because I can actually really enjoy sitting indoors, crawling in a blanket and making myself comfortable..

Best Friend

Today we want to give all the Best Friends in the world some extra attention! We want to emphasize how important it is to have a good friend, with whom you can share all kinds of emotions, experiences and secrets in your life.
A few months from now, we will celebrate our 10 year anniversary with our group of friends. This group consists of us two, and three other girls. We met in high school when we were twelve, but became close friends when we were fourteen years old, and are still a very tigh knit group today. We have shared a lot together, great times, as well as difficult times at some points. We all have changed and we took different paths, but when we are together, we are always the same crazy, chaotic group of strange people that we have been from the start. And this special friendship is something to cherish for the rest of our lives!

Man oh man you’re my best friend
I scream it to the nothingness
That we’ve got everything we need
Well, hot and heavy pumpkin pie
Chocolate candy, Jesus Christ
There ain’t nothing please me more than you
-  Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Do you have a special friendship? What do you like the most about her/him? Let us know!

xx Lisa and Ivanna

PS. We used this quote as an inspiration for our I Heart You bracelets.

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #13: Happy&Mellow

To everyone who had to go to work/college today: I am terribly sorry for rubbing it in, but I love having Mondays off. I do work on Saturdays, so my weekends are not necessarily longer; they are merely pushed forward one day. It is quite strange, really, because everyone else has to work, and most shops are closed on Monday mornings, so it actually feels like I have two Sundays. Which works great for me - I love Sundays! Anyways - to get to the point - today was lovely and quiet, as usual, and I had loads of time to work on the blog, make some listings for our Etsy shop, knit, and listen to music in my pillow fort (yes, I made a pillow fort as well :p). Overall, today was happy and mellow, and that's exactly what this playlist is like. Enjoy!

Weekly Inspiration Post

Two days ago we mentioned how much we adore the beauty of rainstorms and fog. However, we do love a pop of colour every now and then. So, to bring a little brightness to these grey, wet days, we mixed up a cheerful combination of vividly coloured bracelets. This set holds a white version of Greek Goddess, a white and blue Summer Lovin', and a Ménage À Trois with yellow, green, and transparent beads and a tiny heart charm. With colours like these around our arms, we couldn't care less about a few drops of rain!

Beautiful Fog

Even though the weather has been pretty terrible the past week, we couldn't help but noticing how beautiful these absurd amounts of wind and water can be. Especially the heavy fog that covers the streets from time to time really looks quite spectacular to us! Fog almost has the same effect on the environment as snow: they both seem to wrap the world in a quiet, mysterious blanket.

PS: We have already been breaking our heads on possibilities to capure the beauty and magic of fog into some new jewelry. Fortunately, we already found the perfect glass beads for this - so keep your eyes open for our "new supplies" post!

I am the sunlight

Today's Words of Wisdom are a fragment from Mary Elizabeth Frye's poem Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep. It was the first poem she ever wrote. It is written from the perspective of someone who is dying, and is addressed to the people he/she is leaving behind. It tells them not to "stand at my grave and weep", and emphasizes the notion that he/she will still be present in the world around them. I have been in love with this poem for years, and we are still figuring out a way to capture these feelings in ideas into a piece of jewelry.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do you know any poems that are both sad and beautiful, like this one?

Monday's Musical Delight - Playlist #12 In memory of Lou Reed

Today, I spent most of the day indoors, because it was storming really hard outside. This is usually a great opportunity for me to light some candles and listen to music all day long, and today wasn't any different. Sadly, my musical experience was a bit overshadowed by the passing of Lou Reed yesterday.
For the ones who don't already know this: Lou Reed was a rock musician from New York who became famous with his band The Velvet Underground in the sixties. He has been incredibly influential in the music world and I have admired him for as long as I can remember. So, today, in memory of this wonderful artist, I want to share with you a selection of his work.

Weekly Inspiration Post

Last Friday, we posted a set of pictures that showed a side of nature that we find incredibly beautiful. Even though we both love bright colours, flowers, and practically anything happy and cheerful, there is something wonderfully mystical about the rough, pure aspects of nature that are shown in these pictures. Images like these have inspired us to make items like the ones below. The two necklaces (the left one is not yet available, the right one can be found here) are made with very delicate gemstones, but we used a matte bronze chain to give them a more rough appearance. For the Pilgrim's Journey bracelet, we also used bronze chain, and added red jasper beads for a little ethnic touch. For the Greek Goddess bracelet, we used irregular tigereye chip beads - we fell in love with these beads the moment we lay eyes on them!

What do you think about this combination? How would you match these items?

Love,
Lisa & Ivanna

Spirit of Nature

We get a lot of inspiration from nature. Not only do we love to enjoy nature in real life, for example, by going for a walk in the forest, or by camping, but we also love to use natural elements in our personal style. We like to show it in our clothing, and we have worn feathers in our hair for several weeks. But of course, we also use nature as an inspiration for our handmade jewelry. It was even the first inspiration that we had for making our bracelets, when we started with Spring to Fall. And it still inspires us today. That's why, for this Friday, we want to show you some wonderful pictures about living close to nature, which is beautifully displayed in this pure photographs.

What do you love most about nature? Do you have special memories about it?
